How to Make Katsudon (Step-by-Step)
♡ Step 1 – Prepare & Fry the Tonkatsu (20–25 mins) :
1. Season pork chops with salt and pepper.
2. Dredge each chop in flour, dip in beaten egg, then coat with panko.
3. Heat oil to 170–175°C (340°F) and fry pork until golden and crispy (5–6 mins per side).
4. Drain on paper towels, then slice into strips.
♡ Step 2 – Make the Katsudon Sauce (8–10 mins) :
1. In a small pan, combine dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sliced onion.
2. Simmer over medium heat until onions soften and sauce slightly reduces (~5 mins).
♡ Step 3 – Assemble with Eggs (3–4 mins) :
1. Place sliced tonkatsu on top of simmering onions and sauce.
2. Pour beaten eggs evenly over the cutlet and onions.
3. Cover pan and cook on low heat for 1–2 mins until eggs are just set (slightly runny is best!).
♡ Step 4 – Serve (1–2 mins) :
1. Place hot rice in bowls.
2. Gently slide tonkatsu-egg mixture on top.
3. Garnish with chopped green onions or pickles if desired.
Tips for Perfect Katsudon
• Keep eggs slightly runny for a creamy texture
• Don’t overcrowd the pan while frying tonkatsu
• Use fresh panko for extra crunch
